62 - Garaway Tops Tusky Valley 4-3 (4-3-62)
BOLIVAR - Garaway (1-0) started the baseball season off in fine style Tuesday, coming from behind to nip host Tuscarawas Valley (0-1) in the sixth inning. Fire-balling Russ Donklson (1-0) limited Tusky Valley's Trojans to 2 hits, striking out 9 batters in the process. He went all the way to pick up the victory. With Donklson setting them down in good shape, Garaway plated the first run of the season in the second inning to take the lead. Tusky Valley came back to tie the score with a run in the last of the fourth. A run in the fifth put the Pirates on top again, but Tusky Valley plated 2 in its half of the inning to go ahead 3-2. Roy Yoder walked to start things off in the sixth frame. After a man retired, Jim Wheeler doubled to move Yoder to third . Randy Miller then delivered a single to drive in both runners and sew up the victory. Miller led the 8-hit attack with 3 singles. Don Deetz and Donklson had doubles and Bob Yost, Larry Milligan and John Spear added singles. Shipbaugh and Ken Burris accounted for the only Tuscarawas Valley hits. A. Widder (0-1) was the losing pitcher, working all the way for the Trojans.
