62 - Midvale Tops Garaway 8-4 (4-10-62)
SUGARCREEK - Midvale's Blue Devils (1-1) took the measure of Garaway (1-2) in a baseball game at Sugarcreek yesterday to even their mark. Neal Beans (1-1) started for the Devils, going through 6 innings, allowing 3 runs on 7 hits. Jim Anderson (0-0) toiled the final frame, giving up a lone run, the pair fanning 10 and walking 2. Russ Donaldson (1-1) started for the Pirates, giving way to Dan Bleininger (0-1) in the 4th, with the duo allowing 11 hits, striking out 7 and walking one. Mike Page led the Devils with a double and single. Bob Byers and Beans each had 2 singles and Tom Mackey boomed a triple. Donaldson had 2 safeties for Garaway and Geof Stevanus, Roy Yoder and Wheeler each slashed a double. Midvale scored 2 in the first frame, one in the second and two in the third to take a 5-0 lead before Garaway rallied for 3 in the fifth. The Devils then pushed across 2 in the 6th to ice the verdict.
