Midvale's two-year domination of the Tuscarawas County Class "A" League came to an abrupt ending last night when the Garaway Pirates rolled to a 70-50 victory on the Blue Devil floor. It was the big game in the first full slate of league action which saw three other games played. Strasburg, in opening its bid for loop honors, also took its first win, as against two defeats, when it downed Baltic 50-31. Tuscarawas Valley experienced little trouble with Port Washington , which copped its first two games, and won 74-53 for No. 2 while, Tuscarawas remained unbeaten in two games and sent Gnadenhutten to its fifth straight defeat by a 59-48 count. Garaway did what no other team has done to Midvale in 18 past games. That's the skein accomplished by the Blue Devils. They won two games late in the 1956-1957 season and added two successive league crowns with 16 more victories during the 1957-1958 and 1958-1959 seasons. However, it is far from being the longest winning streak in the county league. Strasburg won 51 straight and 5 straight loop titles before being stopped in December of 1957 when it was topped 69-56 by Gnadenhutten. Although the season is comparatively young, Garaway and Tusky Valley have already estasblished themselves as top league contenders. The Trojans finished second to Midvale last season with a 7-1 record, while the Pirates were fourth with a 5-3 mark.
