AUGUSTA - After a shaky start, the Purple Riders of Port Washington (1-0) came to life and registered its first cage victory of the season when they dumped Augusta (0-3) Saturday Night. Lanky John Landon led Coach Dick King's Club with 23 points, while little Bill Phillips chipped in with 19 and Jim Bender hit 12. Port also snapped a 7-game losing streak carried over from last year when they copped only 3 of 20 tilts. The Riders hit 43 per cent from the floor and cashed in on 16 of 20 free throws. The host club hit only 13 fielders and 3 of 16 from the charity line. In the Reserve game Augusta edged Port (0-1) 27-25.
