SUGARCREEK - Garaway High's Pirates (1-0) successfully launched their 1959 Fall baseball campaign yesterday when they turned back invading Gnadenhutten (0-1) 5-4. Southpaw Dan Bleininger (1-0) limited the Indians to two hits, while whiffing 9. He ran into a little control trouble; however, when he walked 8 batters. Bleininger received a big helping hand from fireballing Charles Stingel (0-0) in the top of the 7th. Gnaden's John Hall led off with a long triple. In came Stingel to put out the fire. He struck out the first two batters to face him and caused the third to tap a weak roller to the mound for the third out. Koran Zehnder's two singles, including two runs batted in, and two singles apiece by Bud Yakley and Bob Raber paced Garaway. Stingel singled to drive in another run. Garaway will return to the diamond wars next Tuesday at Baltic.

BALTIC - Baltic (1-0) and Port Washington (0-1) ran into severe cases of fumbleitis here yesterday. The Eagles committed 9 miscues, one more than the invaders, but when the final tally was chalked on the scoreboard had a 6-4 victory. John Rice (1-0), a lanky righthander, took the opening game mound chores for the Eagles as both teams launched their 1959 Fall diamond campaigns. He scattered four Port singles, while fanning 9 and walking only two. Rice also had Baltic's lone extra base hit, doubling in the third inning to lead a four run uprising. The rally surmounted a 3-0 deficit and put the Eagles into the drivers seat to stay. Port errors and walks aided the third inning rally. Charles McPherson and Willis Mullett had a single apiece for the other two hits off losing hurler Jim Bender (0-1). The latter walked 7 and struck out 5. Baltic returns to action tomorrow when it entertains Stone Creek.
