SUGARCREEK - Garaway's Pirates (4-0) (0-5) prepared for their second round of action in the County Fall Baseball League yesterday when it finished off the opening round by whipping Port Washington (1-3) 24-5.

Yesterday the Pirates gave starting hurler Charles Stingel (2-0) a good start, breaking loose for nine runs in the second inning and 10 more in the fourth frame. At the same time Stingel held the Purple Riders' bats at bay, permitting only three hits, and whiffing five. Tom Andrews (0-0) came on in the 7th inning and was touched for four runs on two hits. Jim Bender (1-3), who received aid from John Landon (0-0), was charged with the defeat. The two combined to permit a whopping total of 22 hits. Eight Pirate batters either hit for extra bases or had at least two hits to their credit in the victory. Bud Yakley homered and singled twice, while Stingel contributed a homer, double and single. Jarret Gray tripled and added two singles, Bob Tidrick, Tom Andrews, Bob Raber and Bill Miller singled twice and Koran Zehnder doubled. Landon paced the losers with a triple and single.

It was the fourth straight league victory for the Pirates and fifth straight of the campaign. The opening tussle Thursday in second round finds the Bucs traveling to Gnadenhutten.
