In taking its initial win, Strasburg (1-0) (1-2) put on a tremendous defensive show of strength. The Tigers pulled down 41 rebounds off the defensive boards. They were out battled offensively; however, and gained only 9 rebounds. Coach Warren Binder was pleased with the improved showing of his charges who are slated to scrimmage New Philadelphia in the latter's new gym this morning. But he said they still have a long way to go. The team still made errors. From the opening tipoff the Tigers were stingy defensively. They jumped to a 17-4 lead at the end of the first stanza and permitted the Eagles (1-1) (2-4) only 7 points in the second period for a 28-11 halftime lead. They were ahead 35-23 at the third stop and then waltzed to the win. Exhibiting a balanced point attack four players gained double figures for theBengals. Frank Wallick led the way with 13, while Bill Seese added 11 and Dale Liggett and Don Grove had 10 apiece. Eagle ace John Rice was held to his lowest point total in more than two seasons of play when he scored only 4 points, a big reason for the Tiger victory. Teammate Gary Gerber took scoring honors for the Eagles with 10. Strasburg connected on 18 of 67 from the field for 31 percent and Baltic 11 of 48 for 24 percent. The Baltic Reserves (6-0) dominated the Strasburg Reserves (1-2) winning 27-16. In the Junior High game, Baltic fell hard to Strasburg 33-5.
