60 - Davies Resigns Cage Post At Port School (8-1-59)

PORT WASHINGTON - Port Washington was without a head basketball coach today following the resignation of Tom Davies who has taken a coaching position in Pennsylvania. The Salem-Washington Board of Education accepted Davies' resignation Thursday night at a special meeting.

Davies, who will be the head cage metor at a larger school at Washington, PA - Trinity High - served only one year at Port. His team posted a 3-17 record as he was seriously handicapped by having only underclassmen. His team did not have a Senior on the team and bowed in the first tournament contest. At Trinity, Davies will also serve as an assistant football coach and teach driver education. At Port, Davies taught English, Latin and Spanish.

The resignation means that Port Washington will have a completely new coaching staff inasmuch as last year's assistant cage coach, Mark Covert, also resigned earlier this year. Dick King, who will graduate from Muskingum College this month, was only recently hired to replace Covert as an assistant in basketball and head baseball and track coach. King is a native of Dennison and a former athlete there.
