60 - School Openings Scheduled (8-31-59)

PORT WASHINGTON - Schools in the Salem-Washington District are starting today with dismissal scheduled at 3PM. Regular opening and closing times will be 8:40AM and 3:35PM, respectively. School buses will follow the same routes and trips as last year. The Washington Township school cafeteria will open the first day of school. A hot lunch will cost 30 cents, a half-pint of milk 3 cents. Parents receiving an immunization and vaccination form are urged to complete and return each form with each child as soon as possible. Student insurance - $1.50 for pupils in Grades 1-3 and $2 in Grades 9-12 - will start when the premium is paid. Premiums must be paid before September 11.

The faculty for the coming year is: Port Washington Elementary - Mrs. Mary Veley,
Grades 1-2; Mrs Dorothy Mehok, Grades 2-3; Mrs June Stemple, Grades 4-5; Luther Lindon, Grades 5-6; Neil Compton, Grades 7-8 and junior high coach. Port Washington High - Mrs. Jeanne Palmer, guidance and commercial; Earl Leonhard, mathematics and science; Richard King, health, biology and coach; Charles Knight, industrial arts and English; Charles Harshbarger, Spanish and social studies; Marjorie Barnes, home economics and family living; James Pfeiffer, English, vocal and instrumental music; Sam Begland, Latin.

Washington Township Elementary - Mrs. Connie Spring, Grades 1-2; Shirley Hickbottom, Grades 3-4; Mrs. Ruth Teeple, Grades 5-6; Vernon Powell, Grades 7-8 and principal; James Pfeiffer, vocal and instrumental music. Mrs. Ann Weible will serve as art instructor at both schools.

Custodians include Richard Bond at Washington Township and Lester West at Port Washington. Cafeteria cook at Washington Township is Mrs. Ida Dayton. Bus drivers are Luther Lindon and Neil Compton, route 1; George Fillman 2; Richard Bond, 3; Marvin Hursey, 4 and James Pfeiffer and Charles Knight, 5.
