60 - Garaway Tops Hiland 5-3 For 4th Win (9-19-59)

SUGARCREEK - Garaway's already-strong hitting nine showed that it lacks nothing in the pitching department yesterday when Bob Raber became the third hurler to join the win ranks during a current 4-game streak. In a NON-LEAGUE game, Hiland of Holmes County became the Pirates' fourth straight victim when Raber (1-0) tossed a neat four-hitter yesterday in a 5-3 triumph. He joins Dan Bleininger (2-0), a lefty, and fire-balling Charles Stinger (1-0), for a formidable mound staff. Coach Bill Ray's hitters waited until the third inning yesterday to unleash an attack which resulted in four runs. Bob Tidrick led off with a single and Bud Yakley and George Shepler and Dan Bleininger followed with doubles. Raber walked 6 and struck out 5. Gene Gorber was charged with the defeat, permitting nine hits, striking out 6 and walking 2.

Next week the Pirates (4-0) will be gunning for their fifth and sixth straight victories when they return to County League action, entertaining Port Washington (1-2) at 4 Monday and traveling to Gnadenhutten (1-1) Thursday.
