67 - Tuscarawas County 1966-67 Class A Basketball League Update

Midvale High School (Blue Devils) - Lee Eberly (208 Points)

DOVER - Dan Jinks unfuried the most smoke as nets continued to burn in the Tuscarawas County's torrid scoring race.  Jinks closed in on the league scoring leader, Strasburg's John Studer, with a 72-point outburst on Friday and Saturday nights.  The eagle-eyed marksman rimmed 34 against Port Washington Friday night and 38 against Newcomerstown on Saturday,  With a total of 375 points for the season and an average of 25.0 per outing, Jinks managed to come within 25 points of Studer who owns an average of 26.6.  Studer collected 35 Friday night at Tuscarawas Valley to enter, all alone, the elite class of 400.  If Studer could continue to hold a hot hand, a slight possibility looms for him to bag 500 points for the regular season.  Four players jumped into the 200 point class over the weekend as Lee Eberly and Mike DeMattio of Midvale and Brent Lehigh and John Bihari of Tuscarawas continued to score consistently.

Team totals are still being dominated by Strasburg as it continues to lead in both offense and defense departments.  The Tigers have scored a total of 1191, while holding their opponents to 654.  The offensive average of Strsburg at this time last week was 78.8 and has dipped to 72.6, but at the same time the Tigers defense has tightened and allowed 43.6 points per contest.  Garaway proved to be the stingiest team in the county when it comes to giving out points.  The Pirates now hold 1st place by limiting their foes to a slim 41 points per contest.
