67 - Tusky In Late Surge At Gnaden 51-47 (1-6-67)
Dan Jinks (22) of Gnaden and Tracy Knisely (55) of Tusky go high for a rebound during the Indian-Bronco county league game.
GNADENHUTTEN - A 4th quarter surge by Tuscarawas' Broncos (1-1) (4-4), which saw them out-score Gnaden (0-2) (3-6) 26-17, enabled them to cop a come-from-behind victory last night in a Tuscarawas County League contest. A low-scoring first-half saw Gnadenhutten take leads of 8-7 and 19-15. Gnaden didn't increase its lead much as it led only 30-25 after 3 quarters. Trailing by 9 points early in the final stanza, Gnaden found a lid on the hoop at its end of the court, while Tusky kept pecking at the deficit. At last, the Broncos took a long awaited lead with 6:40 to go in the game. Neither team showed much marksmanship as the victors could manage only 18 of 62 for a cold 29 percent, while Gnadenhutten connected on 14 of 57 for a frigid 25 percent.
Fred Rausch and Brent Lehigh were the only Broncos hitting double figures scoring 12 and 11 points, respectively. Dan Jinks produced 22 for Gnaden, with Bill Kohl making 13. Rausch and Lehigh were also the victims of the 5-personal rule, fouling out in the final period. Gnadenhutten managed a 30 to 26 edge in rebounding, with Kohl snagging 13 for the losers. Tracey Knisley paced Tuscarawas with 11.
The Tuscarawas Reserves (6-2) manhandled the Gnadenhutten Reserves (2-6) by a score of 51-33.
