67 - Port Washington In Overtime Win At Jewett 84-81 (1-7-67)







JEWETT - Port Washington's Purple Riders (6-4) won a thrilling 3-point overtime duel here Saturday night over Jewett.  Greg Bender's 2 foul shots with 35 second left in regulation play sent the contest into extra time.  Jewett employed a full court press throughout the game which caused 14 Port turnovers in the 1st half.  It resulted in Jewett's 39-35 halftime lead.

Port finally solved the Wildcat defense and managed a 54-51 third quarter lead.  The Riders fell behind, but it set the stage for Bender's pressure shots.  Bender topped Port Washington in scoring with 21 points, while Jerry Stephens, Jim Hagan and Jeff Huston followed with 18, 15 and 13 points.  Bernie Wilson had 26 points to lead Jewett, while Harkins made 24 and Shultz 19.

Port lost Tim Page's services late in the 3rd period and Hagan's in the fourth.  Adrian Tharp and Scott Samples fouled out for Jewett in the final period.  From the floor, Port connected on 29 of 66 for 45 percent and Jewett 29 of 73 for 39 percent.  At the line, the Riders made 26 of 40 and the Wildcats 23 of 39.  Port out-rebounded Jewett 37-33. Hagan had 11 to lead the victors, while Wilson topped Jewett with 12.

The Jewett Reserves began the night by whipping the Port Washington Reserves (3-7) 51-39.
