67 - Midvale In 1st Road Win At Gnaden 59-54 (1-20-67)
Gnaden was seeking to even its season record at 6-6 and its Tuscarawas County Class A League record at 2-2 when it entertained Midvale on Friday night. Members of the Indian squad are: Mark Davis, Greg Hamilton, Charles Crites, Dan Jinks, Charles Long, Don Finnicum, Tom Parrish, Wayne Martin, Ken Huprich, Bill Kohl, Roger Huebner and Ken Kohl.
GNADENHUTTEN - Midvale's Blue Devils (3-1) (9-5) came through with their 1st road win of the season last night via a 5-point victory over the Gnadenhutten Indians (1-3) (5-7). Following a nip-and-tuck 1st half the Devils, led by a well-balanced scoring attack, broke open an 8-point lead near the end of the 3rd stanza and were never headed. A last-ditch rally by the Indians was thwarted when 2 Indians, including high-scoring Dan Jinks, fouled out. Jinks left the scene with 42 seconds remaining and had sparked the drive which saw a 14-point Devil lead narrowed to 5 with 1:27 to go. Midvale actually won the contest at the foul line, as the 2 squads were even in field goals at 22. The Devils sank 15 of 26 charity tosses, while the Indians were connecting on 10 of 12 attempts. A total of 26 personals were called in the game, 18 against the tribe. The other Indian to foul out was Wayne Martin, with 21 seconds remaining. A real scoring battle brewed between Jinks and Midvale's Bob Carlisle,with the former taking game scoring honors on 28 markers. Carlisle was close behind with 27. Jinks now has a season total of 282 points, Carlisle 203. In the rebounding department, the victors held a big 39-19 edge, with Mike DeMattio and Carlisle grabbing 10 each and Tom Booth 9 for the victors. Bill Kohl led the Indians with 9. Three other cagers also hit double figures, Booth hitting for 16 and Lee Eberly 13 for Midvale and Kohl 12 for the Tribe. From the field, Midvale connected on 22 of 52 action shots for 42.3 percent and Gnadenhutten 22 on 62 for 35.5 percent.
The Midvale Reserves (8-6) overwhelmed the Gnadenhutten Reserves (3-8) 37-21.
