67 - Studer Tops 1000 Points in Tiger Win At Dover 88-36 (12-17-66)

DOVER - Strasburg (5-0) remained among the unbeaten Saturday night with Dover St. Joseph's Ramblers (0-7) among the winless as theTigers romped to victory on the home court.  Except for a 2-2 tie early in the contest, the Ramblers were never incontention.  Strasburg scored 13 straight points at that juncture and then rolled up quarter leads of 25-5, 38-11 and 73-24.

John Studer led the Strasburg charge, getting 25 points to hike his scholastic career total to 1014...just 103 points behind the school mark set by John Peters, now at Otterbein, during the 1962-63-64 seasons.  Studer broke the 1000-point mark to highlight 3rd period action, the 2-pointer pushing Strasburg's margin to 40-12.  Averaging 26.6 in the Tigers' 5 wins, the 6-3 Senior needs  only 4 buckets a game the rest of the season for a new mark.

St. Joseph's found a tight lid on the hoop and didn't get a 2nd bucket until 3:11 of the initial period, when Denny Capozella, the Rams' leading scorer with 11, broke the ice.  Head Coach Charles Huggins subtituted freely with Strasburg 2nd stringers with about 3:50 to go in the half, but the move didn't help the Ramblers.  They were able to hit on only 2 more buckets before intermission.  Strasburg's driving offense was in control during the 3rd stanza.  A rebound just about got the Tigers a score every time.  The fast break killed St. Joseph's with Studer scoring 12 points and Ed Rusk 10 on the layups.  In the quarter, Strasburg made a tremendous 16 of 21 shots, with almost all coming from the layups.

Studer got ample scoring support from Rusk and Ed Yackey, who scored 16 and 13 points.  Jeff Rechuitti was next to Capozella with 8.  The Tigers made 50 percent of their shots, 37 of 74.  Strasburg made 14 of 19 from the charity stripe.  The Ramblers found connections on 16 of 47 court efforts for 32 percent.  The Rams were at the foul line only 8 times during the game, making 4.  Strasburg pulled down 38 rebounds to 17 for St. Joe.  Studer had 13 for the victors, while Rechuitti was tops for St. Joseph's with 7.  Strasburg was guilty of 14 turnovers, with St. Joe being the victims of 10.

The Dover St. Joseph Reserves (1-5) lost to the Strasburg Reserves (5-0) 66.28.  Strasburg's reserve team was in control throughout the game; although, the young Ramblers showed bright spots.  High scorer for the Tigers was Bob Welling with 19 points.  St.  Joseph was led by John Patacca's 7.
