67 - Port Washington Edges Tuscarawas Valley 70-68 (1-6-67)

PORT WASHINGTON - After trailing the entire contest, Port Washington's Purple Riders (1-2) (5-4) caught fire in the 4th quarter and edged the Tuscarawas Valley Trojans (0-3) (2-5). TV held quarter leads of 22-17, 37-28 and 54-51, before losing its final edge early in the deciding quarter. At that point, Port caught up to the Trojans 56-56. Port took its 1st lead seconds later and never relinguished it.
The victors had 5 men hitting double digits, with Tim Page leading the way at 17. Close behind were Greg Bender with 15, Jeff Huston and Jim Hagan at 11 each and Jerry Stephens with 10. Ray Nist led the Trojans with 16 markers. Larry Adams followed with 15, Jim Burkhart 12 and Dave Clugston 11. Fouls proved costly for both teams, with each losing 2 players. Port lost Page and Huston in the 4th quarter, while Tusky Valley saw Dick Harvey and Dan Fishley go to the bench. Both squads were "hot" from the field. The victors connected on 21 of 50 for 42 percent, while the Trojans made half of its 48 attempts for 50 percent. Port actually won the game, at the charity line making 28 of 40, to 20 of 32 for Tusky Valley. The Trojans out-rebounded the Riders 22 to 21. Burkhart led TV with 9, while Huston pulled down 10 for Port.
In the Reserve game, Tuscarawas Valley (5-2) clipped Port Washington (3-6) 34-30 in a close game.
