67 - Strasburg Belts Midvale 67-36 (1-13-67)

Strasburg's Ed Yackey takes the long stretch to regain possession of a wayward basketball during the Tigers game at Midvale last night.  Also in on the action are Bob Carlisle of Midvale and Ed Rusk (21) of the Bengals.

MIDVALE - Strasburg's 5th ranked Tigers (4-0) (11-0) jumped to a 13-0 lead and waltzed away to a another victory over 2nd place Midvale Blue Devils (2-1) (8-4) last night.  The game was billed as a typical Strasburg-Midvale wingdinger, but the capacity crowd hardly had its seats warm when the Tigers of Head Coach Charlie Huggins grabbed the insurmountable lead.  Bob Carlisle, veteran Midvale performer, put the Blue Devils on the scoreboard with 3:39 left in the 1st quarter, but it was plain that a Strasburg victory was in the making.

All-Ohio John Studer set the pace with 34 points and 21 rebounds.  He put on a dazzling display of shooting in the 1st quarter by canning 13 points on 6 baskets and a foul.  The sharpshooter came right back in the 2nd quarter for a repeat performance to walk off the floor at half time with 26 and the Tigers leading 40-18.  Charlie Jones, 6-3 Tiger guard, took over in the 3rd stanza and netted 9 of his 17 to keep things rolling.  The Strasburg defense was something else, so to speak, as it limited Midvale to 35 field goal attempts in which it connected on 12 for 35 percent.  Strasburg attempted 66 shots and hit on 30 of these for 45 percent.  Tom Booth set the pace for Pete Hilliard's crew with 17 points and Carlisle pulled-down 18 rebounds in spite of the tall Tigers.  Ed Yackey of Strasburg had 17.

The Strasburg Tigers (9-1) continued to cruise by blasting the Midvale Reserves (6-6) 60-26.
