67 - Strasburg Unloads On Cadiz 100-45 (1-20-67)
STRASBURG - A well oiled defensive machine and an offense that struck like a bolt of lightning led the Strasburg Tigers (13-0) to an overwhelming 55-point defeat of the Cadiz Cardinals, last night. It took the Tigers 2 minutes and 33 seconds for the entire starting 5 to hit the scoring column. The score was 16-0 with 1:52 on the scoreboard when the sticky defense allowed the tall Cadiz club to mark its initial points. Strasburg led 25-4 at the end of the 1st stop. The Charlie Huggins-coached Tigers were once again led by All-Ohio John Studer, who had 28 points, but 4 other Tigers hit double figures to produce an attack that had the visitors bewildered.
Ed Rusk followed Studer with 18 as he hit from his favorite left side of the court. Gene Bayer came from the bench in the 2nd and 4th quarters to pot 14 along with Ed Yackey who netted 14 and Charlie Jones 11. Mike Reiger was lauded by Coach Huggins for setting up numerous plays to keep the offense rolling. The Tigers hit on 37 out of 68 action shots for 49 percent, while the Cardinals managed only 38 attempts and connected on 15 for 39.5. At the foul line, Strasburg had its hottest night canning 27 out of 35. Cadiz had 15 of 29. It was the 2nd time that Strasburg has hit the Century mark this year. The 1st was a 101-36 win over Northwest.
The rolling-along Strasburg Reserves (11-1) destroyed the Cadiz Reserves 61-14.
