67 - Midvale Nips Tuscarawas 59-54 (1-27-67)

Tuscarawas was seeking to boost its overall record of 8-6 and 2-3 in the Tuscarawas County Class A League on Friday night when it invaded Midvale for a crucial loop contest.  The Broncos met Midvale in their season opener and scored a 49-41 victory.  Members of the team are:  Ed Smith, Butch Reed, Jim McCauley, Birney McCauley, Bill Goshorn, Les Donehue, Mark Cox, Tracy Knisely, John Bihari, Brent Lehigh, Fred Rausch, Manager Vic Reed and Head Coach Lyle Matlick.

MIDVALE - The Midvale Blue Devils (4-1) (11-6) set the stage for its hassle with Garaway next Friday night for 2nd place in the county league in nipping the Tuscarawas Broncos (1-4) (7-7) last night.  Should Midvale beat Garaway or vice-versa either team would have a chance to share the county league championship if Gnadenhutten upset Strasburg.  Midvale jumped off to an early lead of 3-0 and never trailed, but had its hands full with the determined Broncos.  The Broncos came within one point several times, but could not get into the lead.

Mike DeMattio was again the big man for the Blue Devils scoring 19 points and was assisted by Bob Carlisle with 16.  In the point department for the Broncos, Brent Lehigh led all scorers with 17 and was followed by Jim McCauley and Butch Reed with 10 each.  Both teams' shooting was not up to par as Midvale hit on 19 of 60 and the Broncos 23 of 58.  From the foul line the Blue Devils were 21 of 32 and the Broncos were 8 of 21.  A total of 30 turnovers marred the offensive game again as the Blue Devils were guilty of 12 and the Broncos 18.

The Midvale Reserves (10-7) started off the night by jumping the Tuscarawas Reserves (10-4) and claiming a 48-39 victory.
