67 - Midvale Handles Tuscarawas Valley 58-47 (1-24-67)
Mike DeMattio (45) of Midvale and Tuscarawas Valley's Larry Adams are caught in a back-to-back scramble for the basketball during last night's game on the Trojan hardwoods. Also seen in the action is Blue Devil Tom Booth (21).
ZOARVILLE - Midvale (10-6) treated Tuscarawas Valley (3-9) in an unfriendly manner by handing them an 11-point defeat last night. Turnovers played havoc with any scoring threat the Trojans had in mind as they were guilty of 17 miscues. The contest was played in a deliberate style of offense by both clubs and it was the fine shooting performance of Midvale's Lee Eberly that put the Blue Devils in an early lead.
Eberly hit 4 for 4 set shots, all beyond the 15 foot line to help the Devils to an 18-12 first quarter lead. They were never headed as Eberly was ably assisted by a fine performance from veteran Bob Carlisle who had 20 points and 16 rebounds. Dave Clugston topped Trojan scoring with 13 followed by Dick Harvey's 12. Tom Schroyer was high with 8 rebounds. TV connected on 21 of 49 actions for 44.8 percent. Midvale hit 21 of 44 from the floor for a 47.8 percentage. The game was played in a rather quiet atmosphere until 3:39 left in the 4th quarter when Carlisle and Tusky Valley's Dick Harvey came together under the basket. When it appeared they wanted to square off, Blue Devil Mike DeMattio came to the rescue of his teammate and was ejected by referees Ray Kennedy and Nick Costello.
The Midvale Reserves (9-7) started the sweep by downing the Tuscarawas Valley Reserves (6-5) 55-47.
