67 - Strasburg Breezes Past Zane Trace 74-29 (1-21-67)
CAMBRIDGE - Outmanned Zane Trace of Guernsey County never had a chance against Strasburg's powerful Tigers (14-0) on Saturday night. The Tigers blanked Zane Trace in the 1st quarter and allowed the hosts but 4 in the 2nd to take a 30-4 halftime lead. Strasburg started slowly and failed to gain momentum until half way through the 2nd quarter. After that it was all Strasburg.
Strasburg maneuvered for easy shots to connect on 31 of 59 action attempts for a torried 52 percent. Zane Trace was held to 31 shots from the floor and connected on 12 of these for 39 percent. Once again the pace was set by All-Ohio John Studer as he racked up 12 buckets and 3 fouls for 27. Ed Yackey netted 12 and Gene Bayer 10. Head Coach Charlie Huggins substituted freely and in the final 4 minutes of the game Sophomore Butch Haswell canned 10 markers to add confidence to Huggins' bench strength. Bill Larrick, 6-1 Junior center, set the pace for Zane with 13. The contest was played free of unnecessary fouls as Strasburg hit 12 of 17 and the hosts 7 of 12.
The Zane Trace Reserves also found the Strasburg Reserve (12-1) team just as tough as the varsity as they bit the dust 55-24.
