67 - Pirates In Indian Near Scalp 77-75 (12-23-66)
Garaway and Gnadenhutten basketballers ballet in the air for a rebound during their game last night on the Pirate hardwoods. In the action for the Bucs are Errol Miller (34) and Don Richardson (44), while the Indians are Bill Kohl (55), Dan Jinks (23) and Ken Huprich (45).
SUGARCREEK - A final half surge by Gnaden's Indians (0-1) (2-4) fell short by 2 points as the foul-plagued Garaway Pirates (2-0) (7-0), who led all the way, pulled out a 2-point victory last night in a county league game. Gnadenhutten was making it's county league debut for the 1966-67 season. The Indians were paced by Dan Jinks' 23 final period points in closing the gap. During the final Garaway led by as much as 10 points halfway through the quarter. Garaway lost 3 players via the 5-foul route in the last stanza and the Indians one. They were Don Richardson, ErrolMiller and RichRichardson of the Pirates and Bill Kohl of the Indians. Don Richardson and Kim Sedwick led Garaway with 22 points each. Tim Miller added 17 and Rich Richardson 11. Jinks ended with 34 for the Indians, Kohl counted 19 and Don Finnicum 13. Fouls in the contest were just about even with the Pirates being whistled for 23 personals and the Indians 22. Garaway connected 26 times in 55 attempts from the field for 42 percent and Gnaden hit 25 of 56 for 44 percent.
The tough Garaway Reserves (6-1) picked up their 6th win by blowing past the Gnadenhutten Indians (1-4) 55-36.
