67 - Strasburg Rolls At Port Washington 76-56 (12-23-66)







PORT WASHINGTON - Following a see-saw 1st half, the Strasburg Tigers (2-0 ) (7-0) roared to a 76-56 victory over the Purple Riders (0-2) (4-4) here last night.  The Riders, going into a zone defense in the 1st two frames held an 18-17 margin at the end of the 1st stop and continued to harass the Tigers, but fell behind 31-27 by halftime.  John Studer was once again the big gun for the Tigers, potting 27 points and grabbing 11 rebounds.  Also scoring in double figures for the Bengals were Charles Jones with 20 points and  Ed Yackey with 10.  In the final half, Strasburg broke the contest wide open, outscoring the hosts 22-10.  Jerry Stephens led the Purple Riders scoring with 16 points.  Well-balanced scoring for Port Washington saw Tim Page, Greg Bender and Jeff Huston hitting double figures.  Jeff Huston had 11 markers, while Page and Bender scored 10 each.  The Tigers hit on 34 of 62 action shots for 54 percent and Port Washington 26 of 59 for 34 percent.  Turnovers saw the Tigers commit 10, the Riders 9.

The unbeaten Strasburg Reserves (7-0) blew-off the Port Washington Reserves (3-5) 32-21.
