DOVER - Strasburg's Tigers (12-0) remained undefeated Saturday night, after they had finished crushing Dover St. Joseph's' defense for a 46-point victory. The 5th ranked Tigers in the state, probably had their toughest 1st half of the year. The Ramblers kept pace with the taller opponents, trailing only 16-14 after the 1st stop. St. Joseph scored 10 straight points to take a 12-11 lead, its only one of the night, when Mark Nelson scored on a layup with 1:10 showing. A sticky Tiger defense, as it was all night, stopped the Ramblers with 6 points in the 2nd quarter in taking a 30-20 lead. John Studer found the period to his liking, scoring 10points to lead the Tigers. But, then the fireworks came. The Tigers outscored St. Joe 31-8 in taking a 61-28 third period lead.
Gene Bayer led the surge scoring 10 points, all of which came off the layup variety. Strasburg Coach Charles Huggins substituted freely in the final stanza, as did Jim Antonelli of the Ramblers. Studer led the Tigers with 28 markers, followed by Ed Rusk with 13, Bayer 12 and Charlie Jones 11. Denny Capozella led the Ram output with 9. From the floor, Strasburg made 30 of 71 for 42.1 percent, while the Ramblers were cold on 11 of 54, a 20.3 percent reading.
