67 - Gnaden Trims Newcomerstown 77-76 (1-28-67)








NEWCOMERSTOWN - Dan Jinks and company again pulled one out of the fire as the Gnadenhutten Indians (7-8) sneaked by the Newcomerstown Trojans (2-13) with 2 late foul shots by Bill Kohl.  Jinks hit 38 points to total 72 for the weekend as he gathered in 34 Friday night.  It also gives him a total of 375 for the season for a 25 point average.  The Indians held quarter leads of 14-11 and 32-25, but fell behind 51-50 at the close of the 3rd quarter.  In the 2nd quarter the Indians had an 11 point lead, but the determined Trojans held on to tie the score several times.  Gnaden led 75-74 with one minute to play as Bill Kohl put in 2 foul shots to put the Indians in front 77-74, but with 15 seconds left Jeff Schmidt hit a 25 footer to put the Trojans behind 77-76.  From there on the Indians put the freeze and the ice on it to win the contest.  Helping Jinks in the point department was Don Finnicum with 17 and Kohl with 10.  Leading the scoring for the Trojans 4 men were in the double figure bracket with Schmidt leading the way with 19 and followed closely by Ernie Triplett with 18 and Ron Hurst and Bruce Widder with 12 and 10, respectively.  Both teams had good nights from the floor with the Indians hitting on 29 of 60 and the Trojans 29 of 59.  From the charity stripe the Indians were 19 of 32 and Newcomerstown 18 of 31.

The Newcomerstown Reserves started the night by knocking off the the Gnadenhutten Reserves (3-10) 52-41.
