67 - Strasburg Rocks Hiland 84-57 (12-29-66)

MIDVALE - Sometime during the 1st or 2nd quarter of next Friday night's Strasburg-Garaway game on  the Tiger hardwoods, John Studer will become the most prolific  point maker in the school's history.  For the 2nd consecutive game the Tiger ace was hampered by foul troubles, but still managed to tally 22 points, all in the 1st half, as the Head Coach Charles Huggins led Bengals (9-0) racked up their 9th straight win over the Hiland Hawks (5-5).  The output gave Studer 226 points for the season's 1st half and 1107 for a 2 1/2 year varsity career.  It's just 10 points short of the school career record of 1117, established during the 1961-62, 1962-63, 1963-64 seasons by John Peters.  Studer stayed out of a good part of the 2nd quarter, all of the 3rd and played only a couple minutes of the final against Hiland.

Two teammates, Gene Bayer andvCharlie Jones picked up the scoring slack in his absence firing in 18 points apiece.  Merle Mullet set the pace for Hiland with 14 points and Terry Skelly added 11.  Strasburg and Hiland had an even battle on their hands before the Tigers jumped ahead 25-13 at the 1st stop.  They were on top 44-23 at halftime and 65-38 entering the final period as the Hawks suffered their 5th loss.  Both teams blistered the basket.  Strasburg  hitting 32 field goals in 59 attempts for 52 percent and Hiland 22 of 48 for 47 percent.  The Tigers added 20 of 32 free throws and the Hawks 11 of 19.  Strasburg's top rebounders were Bayer with 14,Studer 13 and Ed Yackey 10.  There was no mention of a Reserve game.
