67 - Tuscarawas County 1966-67 Basketball League Update

DOVER - The record for points in a single game happened just last January 14th when Gnadenhutten's Dan Jinks established a new county single-game record with 59 points against the Tuscarawas Broncos.  One week prior to that Jim Young of Garaway poured in 45 points against the same Bronco team to set a new Pirate record.  John Studer continues to be the county's top scorer.  He leads with 310 points, an average of 25.8.

Jinks is still giving the pair of 1966 All-Ohioans a run for their money and has a total of 254.  Behind him are Bill Kohl of Gnadenhutten with (197), Charlie Jones of Strasburg (190), Bob Carlisle of Midvale (186) and Mike DeMattio of Midvale (176).  Strasburg's Class A leading offense is averaging 78.8 points a game, a slight drop from the Tiger's 79.5 maintained through a week ago.  Because it's a high-scoring team the Tiger defensive prowess are often overlooked.  But Head Coach Charles Huggins considers this the most important phase of the game and the Tigers are the best at it in the county.

They've limited the opposition to 45.3 points a game which is better than last week when the mark stood at 47.3.  Garaway also improved their defensive mark.  Teams playing the Pirates have managed to score, but 47.6 points a game.  Garaway, in limiting Tuscarawas to 30 points Friday night, saw its average drop from 49.4.
