65 - Tuscarawas Bites Conotton Valley 2-1 (4-20-65)

This threesome provided a victorious combination for Tuscarawas in its 2-1 win over Conotton Valley.  Ben McGarry who scored both runs and Rich Schumacher, who drove in both runs, check the style used by pitcher Dave Paisley, who set the  Rockets down on 6 scattered hits.

SUGARCREEK - Tuscarawas (2-2) also emerged from a pair of tight pitching duels yesterday afternoon on the Indian diamond to advance to the next plateau in the Eastern Ohio Class A Sectional Baseball Tournament warfare.  Tusky had to go 8 innings before successive doubles by Ben McGarry and rich Schumacher snapped a 1-1 deadlock, giving the Broncos a decision over Conotton Valley.

Bronco pitcher Dave Paisley (2-0) was consistent in the fact that he showed outstanding ability in the clutch, as did his infield teammates who bailed him out of trouble with some outstanding playmaking.  Paisley pitched himself into and out of trouble 5 out of the 8 innings.  Conotton Valley counted its lone marker in  the 1st frame.  John Whitehair worked the Bronco hurler for a base on balls, went to 2nd on a stolen base and scored on an error by 1st baseman Andy Ronald.  Paisley walked the bases loaded in the 4th inning, but a pickoff play going from catcher Schumacher to 3rd baseman Ray McWilliams, a popper to 1st and a strikeout killed the Rocket bid.  Conotton Valley also had runners on base the 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th innings, leaving 10 men stranded.

When it was over, Paisley had struck out 7 and walked 8.  Losing pitcher Jim Monigold fanned 7 and walked 2.  The Broncos scored the equalizing run in the 5th inning.  McGarry led off with an infield single, stole 2nd and scored when Schumacker lofted a soft single to right that just barely made  it over the glove of Rocket 2nd baseman Whitehair.  The same duo provided the Broncos their winning combination.  McGarry drilled a line drive double down the 3rd base line  andSchumacher followed with his big game-winning  hit to left.
