65 - Malvern Mugs Port Washington 48-43 (2-18-65)

NEW PHILADELPHIA - Five straight field goals by Bucky Monroe sparked Malvern (5-11) to a 41-34 advantage over Port Washington (6-12) after 3 quarters of play. The Hornets were on top 10-7 at the 1st stop and 21-18 by intermission. Monroe ended with 15 points, tying Purple Rider Leonard Cameron for top honors. Jim Montella added 13 to the Hornet cause before fouling out with 3:24 to play. No other Purple Rider hit double figures. Malvern hit on 20 of 55 floor shots for 36 percent and made 8 of 18 fouls. Port Washington was 18 of 54 for 33 percent and 9 of 18, respectively. Rebounds favored Malvern 41-35, with Bill Ostarchvic grabbing 12 and Montella and Charlie Hutchinson 9 each. Cameron and Rich Fillman snared 11 each for Port Washington. In turnovers, the Hornets committed 12 and the Purple Riders 12.
