65 - Strasburg's Hot Shooting Seals Victory Over Tusky 84-72 (2-12-65)
DENNISON - Strasburg's superior shooting eyes told the difference in its battle with Tuscarawas (2-6) (7-11). The radar-like Tigers (7-1) (11-6) burned the nets for 31 of 60 floor flings, a red-hot 52 percent. They weren't too bad from the foul lines, either, rimming 22 of 35. Tuscarawas fired in 28 of 63 action tries and 16 of 27 charities. Balance was a big factor for the touted Tigers of Coach Pete Shahan as all 5 starters reached the 2nd scoring plateau. Ron Lab was top man with 20 points, Sophomore sensation John Studer got 19, steady Rock VanFossen added 18, Rick Hall contributed 13 and Tom Dreher mustered 12. Pacing Charles Etling's Broncos were Dave Paisley and Rich Eckhardt with 24 and 22 markers, respectively. Russ McGlothlin and Ken Rankin each got 10. Strasburg jumped on top 23-15 at the initial rest and held a 41-33 margin by intermission. At the end of 3 frames the Tigers led 58-53. Tuscarawas was on top twice, 4-2 and 48-47 in the 3rd period after Eckhardt sank a deuce. From then on the Tigers were in charge. Strasburg's jumpers outrebounded the Broncos 52-38, Hall leaping for 23. Paisley snared 12. The Tigers end regular season work tonight at Garaway. These same clubs tangled at Strasburg January 22 and the Tigers escaped with a 71-69 overtime victory.
