65 - Conotton Valley Turns Back Warren Consolidated 67-60 (3-11-65)
STEUBENVILLE - Radar-like shooting from out front powered Errol Jacobs' talented Rockets (20-2) over Warren Consolidated. Faced with a sagging defense, the Rockets were content to fire away from long range and zeroed in on the nets 8 times in 12 tries in the 1st frame to build a 19-9 lead. Continuing their amazing shooting in the 2nd stanza, the Rockets held a commanding 42-25 advantage by the half. Warren changing its defense to a more aggressive one after intermission, pulled to within 51-40 going into the final frame and was just 5 points down, 61-56, with a minute left in the game. But, the Rockets regained their poise and held on. Senior Neil Tope paced the Rocket attack, meshing 22 points on an amazing 10 of 12 goals added to 2 charity tosses. Jim Monigold and Greb Kurtz both canned 10 tallies. Conotton Valley ended with 25 field goals ijn 50 attempts, while holding Warren to 22 in 66. Warren canned just 3 of 14 in the 1st frame.
