SUGARCREEK - Garaway (12-4) experienced a slight letdown from Friday night's resounding victory over Midvale (15-2), but still had enough steam to turn back Three Rivers 70-55 here Saturday. The Pirates of Coach Glenn Bower threw the ball away 18 times, but made up for this erratic play by sinking 20 of 39 floor shots for a red hot 51 percent and 20 of 34 charities. Jim Young rimmed 13 of the fouls and with 3 Friday night, gives him the school record for consecutive hits from the charity stripe. The string was broken; however, on his last try. Ron Raber came through with his career high of 21 points to pace the talented Bucs, getting more than ample support from Randy Miller and Young with 15 apiece and Dan Andreas with 14. Garaway had more than a little trouble with a tight press employed by Three Rivers in the 1st half, falling behind 34-30 at the intermission after leading 16-15 the 1st frame. The Pirates used some tight defensive work of their own the rest of the way to bottle up the Patriots and worked through the latter's Press easily. Bower's lads now own a gleaming slate and will visit Baltic Friday and end season play Saturday hosting Strasburg. No Reserve game was reported.
