65 - Conotton Valley Tames The Tigers 71-55 (2-6-65)

STRASBURG - The loss of starters John Studer and Ron Lab on personals in the 3rd canto and a sub-par shooting night cost Strasburg (10-6) a decision to Conotton Valley (14-2) here Saturday.  The talented Tigers battled the touted Rockets on even terms in the 1st frame, 12-12,  but fell behind 29-26 by intermission and 47-43 going into the final frame.  The punch just wasn't there and the Rockets went on  to record their 14th victory.  Strasburg ended up with 25 "hits" in 72 floor tries, a 35 percentage and made 5 of 11 charities.  Conotton Valley sank 24 of 46 action attempts for a blistering 57 percent and drilled in 23 of 30 fouls.  Strasburg outrebounded the range Rockets 45-36, with Rock VanFossen hustling for 13, Rick Hall grabbing 10 and Studer snaring 8.  Greg Kurtz took 13 and Ken Beamer 11 for Conotton Valley.  VanFossen also led the Pete Shahan-coached Tigers in scoring with 17 points.  Tom Dreher added 12.  Four Rockets hit double figures, Kurtz getting 22 tallies, Neil Tope and Jim Monigold 18 each and Beamer 11.  Twenty-one personals were called against Strasburg and 11 against the Rockets of Coach Errol Jacobs.  Strasburg meets Tuscarawas Friday at Dennison and ends at Garaway Saturday.  Conotton Valley visits Franklin Friday and finishes by hosting Lakeland Saturday.  The Conotton Valley Reserves also found time to slay a Giant by roughing up a tough Strasburg team (10-5) 46-37.
