NEWCOMERSTOWN - Eugene Belba (1-0) and Gene Morrison (0-0) combined for a 3-hitter here last night as Midvale (1-0) slapped Newcomerstown (0-1) in a baseball outing to open the season. Midvale ripped losing pitcher Mickey McKibben (0-1) and substitute Greg Chadwell (0-0) for 14 safeties, 4 by Junior Evans and 3 by Ted Tolloti and Tom Daniels. The Blue Devils scored 3 runs in the 1st frame, one in the 2nd, 5 in the 3rd and 3 in each the 6th and seventh. Newcomerstown tallied once in the 4th, 6th and seventh. Evans listed 2 doubles among his 4 hits and Trojan John Smith cracked out a triple. There were no fielding errors.
