CANTON - Powerful Conotton Valley (22-2) stands just 3 games away from the State Class A Basketball Championship. Errol Jacobs' lads put the finishing touches on Fairport Harbor, 61-50, here last night in Regional Tournament play and will meet touted Northwestern tonight for the right to enter the state finals at Columbus next weekend. Northwestern (22-1) polished off Windham 60-46 last night.
Senior sharp-shooter Neil Tope paced the Rocket win, meshing 25 points. Sophomore Ken Beamer got 11 and Jim Monigold 10. Finishing out the attack were Jim Sell 7, Greg Kurtz 5 and John Connor 3. The Rockets spurted to a 23-10 advantage at the 1st stop and never were threatened, posting other quarter leads of 39-20 and 50-34.
