DOVER - Dan Andreas, talented 6-4 Junior from Garaway, was named the No. 1 Class A schoolboy basketballer in Ohio's Eastern District.  The 192-pounder already has a host of colleges after his services.  Stone Creek's Charles Huggins was named Coach of the Year.  Dan Kohler of Midvale and Ralph Douglass of Dennison St. Mary took spots on the 2nd Class A aggregation, with honorable mention going  to Garaway's Jim Young, Strasburg's Rock VanFossen and John Studer, Midvale's Terry Leggett and Dennison's Greg Goodrich.  Tuscarawas County "neighbor" Conotton Valley's Jim Monigold and Neil Tope also came in for honors.  Monigold grabbed a second-team berth and Tope getting honorable mention.

Andreas combined sterling defensive ability with great offensive effort in winning the outstanding player award, averaging 14 rebounds and 16 points per game.  In addition, he blocked more than 70 shots.  Huggins just finished his second year at Stone Creek which merges with New Philadelphia July 1.  Prior to Huggins' arrival, Stone Creek had won just 13 of 83 games since 1958-59.  But, although using similar player talent, he molded the Panthers into a highly-respectable aggregation.  In his 2 seasons as boss, the Panthers won 31 of 44.  The 1963-64 club went to the District Tournament, the farthest of any team in the school's history and this past season's squad was 17-4, the best won-loss record ever marked up by the Panthers.  Last year Huggins was named Tuscarawas County Class A League Coach of the Year and has a good chance to repeat this campaign.  Huggins coached at Cheat Lake High at Morgantown, West Virginia, prior to going to Midvale as assistant in 1958.
