65 - "A" Sectonal Pairings Made
DOVER - Plans for one of the most exciting basketball tournament ever held in the Tuscarawas County area were finalized last night when coaches and officials of schools involved in the Class A Sectional met in Helmkamp's Restaurant. Eighteen teams, including top-seeded Midvale, Conotton Valley, Dennison St. Mary and Stone Creek, will play a total of 16 games, the 2 co-winners advancing to District action at Steubenville. Opening activity is Tuesday in New Philadelphia Gymnasium. Teams were seeded on the basis of their won-loss records against only single A teams in good standing with the Ohio High School Athletic Association. After the top 4 teams got their choice in the separate brackets, teams drew for order of draw and then for order of selection.
Midvale (15-2) was seeded 1st, with Conotton Valley (14-2), St. Mary (12-2) and Stone Creek (16-3). Getting their "choice" then were:

Opening round action Tuesday pits August (4-11) against Tuscarawas (7-10), Garaway (12-4) against Gnadenhutten (6-11) and Baltic (3-14) against Seton Catholic (6-11) of Lafferty.
Strasburg (10-6) and Midvale (15-2) lock horns Tuesday, February 23. Another tough opener pits Hiland (14-5) against Conotton Valley (14-2) Thursday, February 18.
Official scorer again will be Art Cicconetti and New Philadelphia Mayor Joe Pritz will run the clock.

NOTE: The Tuscarawas County Class A Tournament ended in 1964. Strasburg won the 1st one in 1923 and the last one in 1964.
