66 - Strasburg Shoots Past Tusky Valley 55-38 (1-15-66)






Mighty happy now that the Strassburg's Tigers are in a tie for 1st Place in the Tuscarawas County Class A League are cheerleaders:  Janie VanFossen, Stephanie Smith, Kay Austin, Connie Ball and Jeannine Fisher.  The Tigers leaped into the top spot by downing Port Washington is a league game last Friday night.

ZOARVILLE - Strasburg (9-2) swished in 47 percent of their field goal tries Saturday night in coasting to a victory over Tuscarawas Valley (3-8).  Sharp-shooting John Studer, sensational 6-3 Junior, paced the Charles Huggins-coached Tigers with 22 points.  Chuck Jones followed with 10.  High for Bill  Frye's Trojans was Dick Harvey with 14.  Ray Nist got 12.  Strasburg made 21 of 41 from the floor and 13 of 23 from the foul lines.  Tuscarawas Valley was 12 of 39 from the floor for a cool 31 percent and 14 of 23 from the foul lines.  Rebounds favored the talented Tigers 29 to 22, with Studer snaring 9.  Dan Burrier of theTrojans pulled in 6.  After the Trojans took a 1-0 lead, Jones countered from the foul line and the Tigers never trailed again as they roared to their 9th victory.  Twenty personals were called against the Trojans and 15 against Strasburg.  In turnovers, Tuscarawas Valley committed 16 and the Tigers 11.  Strasburg will visit Gnadenhutten Friday and host Canton Saturday.  TV will visit Hiland Tuesday.  The Strasburg Reserves also coasted against the Tuscarawas Reserves, 53-30.
