66 - Garaway Blasts Gnadenhutten 87-44 (12-29-65)
THEY HOPE INDIANS WILL 'WALK THE PLANK'. Taking time out from holiday festivities to lead the cheering for Garaway High Schools' basketballers tonight against visiting Gnadenhutten will be Sharon Young, Vicky Schlarb, Beth Mulschelknaus, Carol Flynn, Jane Plummer, Jane Finzer, Sueanna Schott, Sandy Schumacher and Jean Plummer.
Gnadenhutten's Wayne Martin and Bill Kohl pull a "stickup" against Garaway's Dex Sedwick.
Garaway's Dex Sedwick went all out to come up with this loose ball and now looks for someone to pass it to. In the rear is teammate Dave Andreas.
SUGARCREEK - A bit perturbed by his team's showing in the 1st quarter against Gnadenhutten (2-6) last night, Garaway Coach Glenn Bower benched 3 of his starters. The result was a fired up team that went on to crush the Indians. Garaway (5-2) will visit Tuscarawas January 7th. Gnadenhutten will visit Lakeland January 4th.
The Indians led the Pirates 14-12 at the end of the 1st quarter, but when Bower put the starters back in halfway through the 2nd quarter it was all but over. The Pirates went on to take a 40-16 halftime margin and led 72-31 going into the fiknal frame. They outscored the Indians 21-1 atone stretch in the 3rd canto. Don Richardson carried the load in the 2nd quarter with 5 field goals on some great outside shooting and finished with 14 points. It was a well-balanced Pirate attack, with Dave Andreas leading the way with 16 points. Dan Andreas and Terry Gerber both got 13 and Rod Showers 12. High for Oren Thompson's Indians were Dan Jinks and Bill Kohl with 18 and 16, respectively. Garaway enjoyed a fine night of shooting, hitting on 38 of 85 field goal tries for 44 percent. Gnadenhutten was 14 of 54 for 26 percent. From the foul lines, the Pirates made 11 of 19 and the Indians 16 of 25. Rebounds favored Garaway 36 to 13, with Dan Andreas pulling in 15 and brother Dave snaring 9. The Garaway Reserves also had their way with the Gnadenhutten Reserves pulling off a 35-20 win.
