66 - Midvale Coasts Over Lakeland 71-51 (1-15-66)

The Midvale High School Blue Devils' cheerleaders for this season are:  Brenda Robb, Ima Royer, Barbara Fox, Priscilla Booth, Rita Schumaker and Mary Szymialis.

MIDVALE - That old standby, the man-to-man press, brought Midvale (11-3) through again Saturday night.  The Blue Devils, leading by only 13-11 at the 1st stop and 29-25 at the half, put on the pressure after the intermission and all but wrapped the game up in the 3rd quarter by taking a 53-35 lead at the close.  The victory keeps Midvale the winningest team in Tuscarawas County with 11 victories.  It has lost 3.  Dennison St. Mary's is right behind at 10-1.

It was a well-balanced attack that provided dividends for Pete Hilliard's crew, 4 players reaching double figures and 2 others just missing.  High scorer for the Blue Devils was Bill Hibbs with 15 points.  Bob Carlisle had 13, Dan Fox and Harvey Byers 11, Chuck DeMattio 9 and Lee Eberly 8.  Don Ferguson paced the Gary Caviness-coached Raiders (7-5) with 21 points for game scoring honors.  Freshman Denny Luyster had 12.  Rebounds favored Midvale 38 to 23, with Carlisle snaring 9 and Eberly and Hibbs 8 each.  Luyster grabbed 8 for Lakeland and teammate Lincoln Simpson 6.  Midvale made 25 of 86 action attempts for 29 percent and was 21 for 27 at the foul lines.  Lakeland was 18 for 40 from the floor for 45 percent and 15 for 21 at the foul lines.

Hibbs put the Blue Devils on top 2-0 with about 2 minutes gone and they never were headed.  Their press forced the Raiders to give up the ball 24 times on turnovers.  Midvale committed 14 turnovers. Lakeland will hosst Flushing Thursday and visit Hopedale Friday.  Midvale will host Port Washington Saturday.  The Midvale Reserves ran down the Lakeland Reserves 53-37.
