NEWCOMERSTOWN - Dan Jinks is a marked man.  The Gnadenhutten sharp-shooter opened the 1965-66 basketball season in amazing style Saturday night, pouring in 50 points to spark the Indians (1-0) to a double overtime victory over Newcomerstown.  The record performance was earned as Jinks sank most of his shots from 15 to 20 feet away from the baskets and cashed in on only a couple of layups.  He sank 21 of 32 action shots and 8 of 10 fouls to break the school scoring record of 44 points by Ron Bradley in 1958-59.

Trojan John Hurst dropped in a jump shot from mid-court with 2 seconds left in regulation time to make the score 57-57.  In the 1st overtime, Trojan Craig Wilkin popped in a jumper from the foul line with 3 seconds left to make it 65-65.  Jinks hit on a jumper from the foul line to start the 2nd overtime and teammate Don Finnicum sank both ends of a one-and-one situation for a 69-65 lead and the Indians were all but home free.  Both teams sank 29 field goals the Indians in 52 attempts and the Trojans in 72.  Gnadenhutten led 39 to 30 in rebounds, with Ken Morrison pulling in 14 and Jinks 11.  Wilkin snared 12 for the Trojans.  Newcomerstown tried all types of defenses against Jinks, but nothing worked.  Dave Beaber did a good job on the Indian until picking up his 4th personal in the 1st half.  In the Reserve game, Newcomerstown mowed down Gnaden (0-1), 39-21.
