66 - Port Washington Tops Madison 59-51 (12-18-65)
Port Washington High School's Basketball Team members this season are: Bill Dummermuth, Jerry Stephens, Greg Bender, Mike Peeper, Roger Lewis, Jim Hagen, Rich Fillman, Jeff Huston, Ken Rothenstine, Tim Page, Assistant Coach Jo Lopez and Head Coach George Thomas.
PORT WASHINGTON - A well-balanced attack enabled port Washington (2-4) to post its 2nd victory in the last 3 games Saturday night over Madisonof near Cambridge. Roger Lewis tossed in 18 points to pace the George Thomas-coached Purple Riders. Jeff Huston contributed 12. High for Madison was Ron Paden with 19. Port Washington sank 21 of 45 action attempts for a hot 46 percent and dropped in 17 of 26 fouls. Madison made 16 of 55 floor flings for 38 percent and meshed 19 of 35 fouls. Rebounds favored the Purple Riders 39 to 25, with Huston grabbing 12, Lewis 10 and Rich Fillman 9. The hosts jumped out to a 1-0 lead and held a 7-1 advantage before Madison put on a scoring spree to go on top 18-15 at the 1st stop. The score was knotted 23-23 at one stage of the second stanza,but the visitors pulled ahead and led 36-30 at the half. Madison continued to hold the upper hand in the 3rd quarter leading 43-38 at the close. The Purple Riders began to rally early in the final frame, pulling even 43-43 and then going on top within a minute. Both teams pressed at times on defense. Port Washington visits Tuscarawas January 8th. In the Reserve game, Port Washington picked up the win over the Madison Reserves, 38-33.
