STRASBURG - John Studer poured in 37 points Saturday night to carry Strasburg (5-1) to a victory over Garaway (3-2).  The win is the 5th straight for Charlie Huggins' lads...all at home...after an opening 68-63 loss at Midvale.  The Tigers will leave their friendly lair for 3 straight road tests December 30 when they visit  the home of the tough Hiland Hawks (5-1).  Hiland will visit Frazeyburg and Smithville before returning home to greet the Tigers.  Garaway will host Ridgewood Thursday.

Studer, a 6-3 Junior, pumped in 16 of his points in the 3rd quarter to spark the Tigers to a 42-41 advantage at the rest after the Pirates had forged on top 26-20 by the half.  Strasburg led 11-10 at the 1st stop.  Don Richardson put the Glenn Bower-coached Pirates on top 2-0 with a strike from the floor and the 2 cage titans battled back and forth the rest of the quarter.  The Tigers experienced a defensive letdown in the 2nd stanza and the slick-working Pirates took advantage of the opportunities to go in front.  Terry Gerber and Dan Andreas both scored 6 points and teammate Jim Young 4 in the 2nd period.  The Tigers trailed by 10 points, 24-14, about halfway through the quarter when they went into a three-quarter-court press to pull back close.  They employed the same tactics the rest of the way.  Studer, held to a lone field goal and 3 fouls in the 2nd period, put the Tigers on top about halfway through the 3rd quarter.  Strasburg led by 4 points, 55-51 and had possession of the ball late in the game.  The Pirates forced a turnover and Gerber, who swished in 6 points iin the frame, scored to cut the Pirate deficit to 55-53.  The Tigers then missed a layup and the Pirates missed a shot, but retained possession out of bounds with a second left.  A shot from the corner hit the rim and bounded away and the Tigers had the victory.

Studer was the only Tiger in double figures, but he got valuable assistance from playmaker Charles Jones, defensive stalwarts Dick Fox and Mike Rieger and workhorse Ed Yackey.  Fox replaced regular Ed Rusk who was injured in Friday night's game against Gnadenhutten.  High for the Pirates was Dan Andreas with 18 points.  Gerber ended with 14.  Both teams were red hot from the floor, Strasburg making 52 percent of its shots and Garaway 55 percent.  At the foul lines, Strasburg was 11 of 20 and Garaway 7 of 12.  Each quintet pulled  in 44 rebounds.  Studer snared 13 and Yackey 10 for Strasburg.  Dan Andreas paced the Pirates.  Studer, who now has scored 30 ormorepoints in 3 straight games has 178.  Garaway lost Richardson andDaveAndreas onplersonals in the final frame.  The Strasburg Reserves socked the Garaway Reserves 53-31.
