66 - Newcomerstown Nips Gnaden 56-55 (12-18-65)

The inspiration behind Newcomerstown High School's basketball team this season comes from cheerleaders Marlene Stonebrook,  Linda Moore, Susan Swigert and Diane DeLong.  They'll be in "action" when the Indians play Newcomerstown on December 18th.

GNADENHUTTEN - Newcomerstown (3-4) shook off the effects of Friday night's 90-51 loss at West Holmes to nip Gnadenhutten (2-5) Saturday night.  Gnadenhutten led at all the stops, 11-9, 25-23 and 38-36.  The Indians held an 11-point advantage, 49-38, with about 2 minutes left in the game, then costly turnovers enabled the Trojans to forge ahead.  With 1:46 left, the Trojans were on top by a point.  Dan Jinks then took over for the  Indians and dropped in 4 straight points to put Gnadenhutten on top.  But, it wasn't to be as the Trojans came back to go on top and notch the win.  The Indians lost Bill Kohl and John Ridgeway on fouls in the 4th quarter.  Ken Morrison beame ill and had to leave the game in the 1st frame.  The Trojans made 44 percent of their field goal tries and 42 percent of their fouls.  The Indians were 33 percent from the floor and 56 percent from the charity lines.  Craig Wilkin, returning to action after being sidelined for disciplinary reasons, paced the Trojans in the scoring department with 15 points.  John Hurst and John Smith both canned 12.  High for the Indians was Jinks with 23.  Kohl followed with 21.  No Reserve game was reported.
