66 - Midvale Slams Hopedale 99-28 (12-30-65)






Midvale's Harvey Byers has just fired away at the basket.  Waiting for possible rebound are Blue Devils Bill Hibbs (50), Chuck DeMattio and Bob Carlisle (20).

MIDVALE - Pete Hilliard's Midvale Blue Devils (8-2) hardly worked up a sweat last night in routing Hopedale's Comets.  Midvale thus closes out the 1965 portion of its basketball season with a gleaming record.  Last night, the Blue Devils rolled to a 24-5 lead at the 1st stop, 42-9 at the half and 85-24 going into the final frame.  Hilliard called his starters to the bench with about 3 minutes gone  in the 3rd canto.  Ten different players scored for the Big Blue, 5 hitting double figures.  Lee Eberly led the way with 21 points.  Chuck DeMattio had 19, Bill Hibbs 15, Bob Carlisle 13 and Bob Morrison 11.  High for Hopedale was Long with 10.  Midvale drilled in 42 of 74 action attempts for a blistering 57 percent and made 15 of 29 fouls.  Hopedale was 8 of 49 from the floor for a meager 16 percent and 12 of 21 from the foul lines.  Rebounds favored Midvale 46 to 18, with DeMattio pulling in 11, Eberly 8 and Morrison 8.  Long grabbed 8 for Hopedale.  Hopedale stalled the ball for the final 4 minutes.  Midvale's Reserves kept pace with the Varsity by winning 46-20.
