65 - Garaway Jolt's Gnaden 4-3 (5-19-65)
GNADENHUTTEN - Garaway High (4-1) came up with a clutch baseball victory over tough Gnadenhutten (4-1) (14-3) yesterday to gain a part of the Tuscarawas County Class A League title along with Gnadenhutten and Midvale. It is not known if a playoff will be held to determine one champion or if the 3 will each share the title. One source indicated it was too late in the school year for a playoff.
Garaway rocked Gnadenhutten pitcher Jim Jinks (3-1) for 2 runs in each of the 1st 2 innings before they were forced to face talented southpaw Bill Kohl (8-1). Gnadenhutten plated 2 runs in its half of the 1st and rallied for another in the final frame. Jim Pope (1-0) went the route for the Pirates, limiting the usually hard-hitting Indians to 7 hits, walking 4 and striking out 4. Jinks and Kohl allowed 6 hits, walked one and struck out 10. Five of Garaway's hits went for extra bases. With 2 out in the 1st, Garaway's Dan Andreas doubled (2) and rode home on Randy Miller's triple (1). Miller then scored on an error. In the Tribe's 1st, Terry Huebner led off with a single (11), Gene Bates singled (10) and Roy Williams walked. Gary Rich then hit into a double play, Huebner scoring. Bates then scored on an error. In Garaway's 2nd inning, Bob Malone singled (1) leading off and scored on Jim Young's triple (1). Young then scored what proved to be the winning run on an infield out. Gnadenhutten's final inning rally started when Bates tripled (2) with one out. He scored on Williams' sacrifice fly. John Rice walked, but Pope enticed Fred Glass to fly out to end the battle.

NOTE: Looks like Garaway picked up a non-reported win. Further research shows no play-off for a League Champion. The Tuscarawas County Class A Baseball League for the 1964-65 season ends in a 3-way tie with the Garaway Pirates, Gnadenhutten Indians and Midvale Blue Devils, all at 4-1.
