66 - Tuscarawas One-Hits Lakeland (4-13-66)
TUSCARAWAS - The Broncos baseball team (1-0) opened the season with a shutout over Lakeland yesterday as pitcher Dave Paisley (1-0) hurled a one-hitter. The Broncos wasted little time in scoring, pushing over 2 runs in the 1st inning. Rick Schumaker's bunt with the bases loaded via walks accounted for the 1st run. The 2nd came as Red Raider pitcher Denny Luyster continued to give up free passes, walking Bill Goshorn to force in Jim McCauley. The hosts were then held scoreless until the 5th inning as Bill Bachtel turned in a fine relief job. Paisley broke the spell with a Home Run. Tracey Knisley scored the second run of the inning on an error. The Broncos wrapped up the win with a pair of runs in the 6th inning. Paisley recorded 10 strikeouts and gave up 3 walks. Dave Dockins ruined the bid for a no-hitter with a single in the 4th inning. Luyster and Bachtel struck out 8, while giving up 9 walks. Tim Reed, Schumacher and Paisley had singles to account for the remainder of the Bronco hits.
