66 - Down The Line With Dan Kopp

DOVER - CONOTTON VALLEY COACH RAPS OFFICIALS - Errol Jacobs, head basketball coach at Conotton Valley, was anything but pleased by the officiating in Saturday night's 65-63 loss in double overtime to Strasburg.  "I definitely feel someone talked to them (Jack Welch and William Drennen), both of Marietta, at halftime," Jacobs said.  "They had their minds made up they weren't going to call the fouls they did in the 1st half.  "In the first half we were using John Conner as a screen for Jim Monigold and Conner was being bumped by Strasburg defenders and it was being called.  The same thing happened in the 2nd half, but it wasn't called.  They said Conner was falling down deliberately.  We could have won despite the officiating, but I still would have felt the same way.  I hope I never see those two again.  The fouls shouldn't have been so far out of proportion.  (22 personals were called on Conotton Valley, 15 in the 2nd half and 8 against Strasburg each half)."  One Rocket fan jumped from his 1st row seat toward one of the officials and was immediately escorted from the gymnasium by a Dover policeman.  Jacobs said he was real pleased with his team's effort.  "We planned to press and upset their (Tigers) offense and fastbreak when we could," he said.  "The boys followed the plan almost perfectly."
