66 - Tuscarawas Hammers Lakeland 17-6 (4-26-66)
Tim Reed of Tuscarawas, who slapped out 3 hits yesterday, inspects his bat. Looking on are Bronco Dave Paisley, Lakeland's Sam Heath and Sam Ferrell and Bronco Rick Schumacher.
GNADENHUTTEN - Tuscarawas (3-1) blasted Lakeland 17-6 in Class A Sectional Baseball Tournament action on Tuesday. Scio will play Tuscarawas next, since Sico beat Port Washington (0-1) earlier in an unreported game.
The Broncos had it "all the way" against the inexperienced Red Raiders, pouncing on starting pitcher Tom Mallarnee for 2 doubles, a single and 2 runs in the 1st frame. Ron Septer took over the pitching duties for Lakeland, but could not stop the Bronco momentum, allowing another hit and 3 more runs. The Broncos scored once more in the 2nd, twice in the 3rd and 4th innings and iced the decision with a 7-run outburst in the finale. The Raiders had only one threat materialize...in the 3rd inning when they were able to cut the Bronco margin to 6-4. The final Raider score was picked up in the 7th inning.
Dave Paisley (3-1) was the victorious hurler, scattering 8 hits, striking out 11 and walking 3. Septer was tagged with the loss, giving up 8 of the 11 Bronco hits, fanning 6 and walking 7. Mallarnee did not retire a man and allowed 3 hits before being removed from the game. Extra base hits were aplenty for the Broncos as Terry Willison (2) and Paisley (1) banged out doubles and Rick Schumacher a triple (1). Schumacher also had a single (5). Tim Reed had 3 singles (5) and Jim McCauley 2 (2). Wayne Dockins' double and single led the losers, while Jeff Bachtel and Dennis Luyster each collected 2 singles.
