66 - Midvale Slams Tuscarawas Valley 57-30 (2-28-66)
Trojan Dan Burrier appears to be using the basketball for a punching bag. He's flanked by Blue Devils Bob Carlisle and Bill Hibbs.
Midvale's Bill Hibbs is hemmed in by Tuscarawas Valley's Ray Nist and Tom Studer.
DOVER - Tuscarawas Valley (6-14) could have used that well-known Trojan horse against Midvale (17-3). And even then it's doubtful the Blue Devils could have been stopped in their drive to a Sectional Tournament finals berth. Working methodically for its shots, Midvale poured in 20 field goals in 39 attempts, 51.3 percent. Tuscarawas Valley was the exact opposite, meshing only 8 of 45 for a frigid 17.8 percent. It was Midvale's 3rd triumph over the Trojans this season and 6th straight since Tuscarawas Valley topped the Blue Devils 69-59 in the Tuscarawas County Class A Tournament at New Philadelphia in 1963. Three Blue Devils ended the night in double figures, with Bill Hibbs' 17 points leading the way. Rounding out Coach Pete Hilliard's attack were Harvey Byers with 13 and Chuck DeMattio with 10. Dick Harvey's 9 markers was high for Tuscarawas Valley. Midvale never trailed in the contest and its patented man-to-man defense limited the Trojans to 5 points each in the 1st and 2nd quarters.
